Avon Skin-So-Soft Bug Repellent Review

avon-skin-so-soft-bug-02.jpgYesterday, we wrote about some comments made regarding the use of Avon Skin-so-soft as a mosquito repellent. The commentor was not totally convinced that using the skin softener as a mosquito repellent was highly effective. People looking for DEET-free bug deterrents have tried this avenue. She did mention that Avon took advantage of the situation to put out a line of Avon Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard moisturizing skin softeners that were DEET-free.

Let’s look at three of the skin softeners and see what a limited consensus of 30 people is on their effectiveness.

The use of DEET-free Avon Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus insect repellent in the aerosol can reviews was positive. ‘We have 60 million mosquitoes here in the summer and Bug Guard is the only product I’ve found that works.’ ‘I live in the south and have been using avon’s sss bug guard for years.’ Another reviewer, Misty, said, ‘I use the spray on the legs of my kids. They stay bite-free.’ Only one reviewer would choose DEET-based deterrents instead.

The second skin softener we chose to look at was Avon Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus Moisturizing Sun Block Lotion. One reviewer really put the lotion to the test. ‘Surrounded by black flies, mosquitos and sand flies’, the bug repellent was not HIGHLY effective. It would probably work fine under ‘normal circumstances’. The sunblock worked great. Karen, commented, ‘Avon Skin-So-Soft for bugs is the only thing that really works for me. I love the smell too.’

Avon Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus Sunscreen Spray was the final DEET-free skin softener reviewed. This unscented skin softener had high praise. ‘It works very well!!! I am allergic to everything and this is the only repellent that i can wear on my skin. You dont have to wash it off when you come indoors and the smell doesen’t knock you over!!!’ Kay loved it too, ‘Skin-So-Soft doesn’t stink like some bug sprays. I went to an outdoor wedding near the water and didn’t get one bite.’

avon-skin-so-soft-bug.jpegWe’d say the general consensus is that Avon Skin-So-Soft bug repellents work to repel bugs most of the time. About 85% of those reviewed would use it again. The benefits of moisturing your skin or acting as sunblock can be added benefits.

Mosquito Repellent Use of Avon Skin-So-Soft

You’ve probably heard that Avon Skin-So-Soft can be used as a mosquito repellent if you’re reading this. Opinions are that it is actually not that effective a deterrent at keeping these nasty critters off your skin. I recently read the following thoughts.

‘Skin So Soft — a body lotion — has been kind of an underground bug repellent, thanks to its powerful aroma (some people love it, some hate it). Avon never marketed it as bug juice because that would mean it would have to undergo all sorts of testing and regulatory hoop-jumping. I was always skeptical of its efficacy. In any case, Avon knew a business opportunity when it saw one, and now it offers a full line of DEET-free bug repellents.’

Repellent Review has since looked at this line of mosquito barrier lotions.

‘I have yet to test Avon bug juice on my own flesh, but when the bugs are really biting, DEET products are the only thing I really trust. Yes, DEET is very toxic and it has to be used carefully, especially on kids.’

Since one of our quests is to find productive ways to repel mosquitoes and other bugs, we will have to explore the deterrents Avon has to offer.
